‘Two countries, one heart’: U.S. President gives joint address to Parliament

U.S. President Joe Biden evoked the long-standing friendship between Canada and the United States during a joint address to Parliament on Friday, March 24, 2023.

“Americans and Canadians are two peoples — two countries — sharing one heart,” Mr. Biden said.

“No two nations on earth are bound by such close ties: friendship, family, commerce and culture.”

Those ties will help both countries overcome the economic, security and climate challenges that lie ahead.

“The United States chooses to link our future with Canada because we know that we’ll find no better partner,” he said.

“You will always — always — be able to count on the United States of America.”

Speaker of the Senate George J. Furey, K.C. thanked him for his message of “hope, unity and partnership.”

He referenced a passage in a book Mr. Biden wrote that politics, done right, can improve people’s lives.

“It is right and fitting that we take this journey together as Canada and the United States of America,” Speaker Furey said.

“For the great task before all of us is to make this world a more peaceful and a more prosperous place for everyone.”
