Tuesday, January 10, 2023 – Senator Brian Francis presents remarks during the “Inspiring Leadership Series” organized by the Greater Summerside Chamber of Commerce in Prince Edward Island. He spoke about advancing reconciliation in the business sector through the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada’s Calls to Action and the National Indigenous Economic Strategy’s Calls to Economic Prosperity.

Thursday, January 19, 2023 –Senator Nancy J. Hartling visits Grade 8 students at Maplehurst Middle School in Moncton, New Brunswick. She talked about the history of the Senate and its role in Parliament, including the work of senators in the course of their duties. 

Thursday, January 26, 2023 – Senator Brian Francis gives the keynote address at the 24th Annual APC Fisheries Conference in Halifax, Nova Scotia, hosted by the Atlantic Policy Congress of First Nations Chiefs Secretariat. The senator shared some of his work to advance the full implementation of rights-based fisheries.

Friday, February 3, 2023 Senator Kim Pate visits a Grade 5 class at Guardian Angels Catholic School in Ottawa, Ontario. Students learned about the role of the Senate in Parliament and the senator’s work as part of this visit organized by SENgage.

Sunday, February 5, 2023 – Senator Bernadette Clement joins the congregation of St. John’s Church in Cornwall, Ontario, for Black History Month. The senator delivered a speech on the theological and spiritual ties of the Black community inside and outside the church.

Tuesday, February 7, 2023 – Senator Robert Black attends a breakfast event in honour of British High Commissioner to Canada Her Excellency Susannah Goshko. The event was hosted by the Canada–United Kingdom Inter-Parliamentary Association.

Wednesday, February 8, 2023 – Senator Robert Black, right, meets with representatives of Pulse Canada to hear more about the association’s recently released report on the economic impact of Canadian pulses on Canada’s GDP. 

Thursday, February 16, 2023 – As the one-year mark of the full-scale Russian invasion of Ukraine approaches, senators hosted the Ukrainian Embassy’s Deputy Head of Mission, Andrii Bukvych, in the Senate of Canada Building for an exchange of flags. The Canadian flag was signed by senators and bears the words “Ukraine, we are with you”; the Ukrainian flag is signed by soldiers from the frontline in Bakhmut. Present for the exchange were, from left, senators Colin Deacon, Pierrette Ringuette, Stan Kutcher, Mobina S. B. Jaffer and Kim Pate, Mr. Bukvych, senators Michael L. MacDonald and Larry W. Smith, and Usher of the Black Rod J. Greg Peters.
