On Monday, December 10, 2018, the world marks International Human Rights Day to commemorate the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR). This year is particularly significant as countries around the globe will celebrate the UDHR’s 70th anniversary.
The Senate Committee on Human Rights invites all Canadians to take time on this day to reflect on our country’s role in the protection of human rights both here in Canada and around the world.
As Canadians, we are proud of our reputation as advocates for the rights of all people, and we recognize there is still much work to be done. It is as important now as it has ever been to show the world that Canadians will continue to stand up for human rights.
Committee members came together to reflect on how far the world has come and on how much still needs be done to ensure the protection of fundamental human rights of every person on this planet.
Share your reflections with the Senate this International Human Rights Day by using the hashtags #StandUp4HumanRights and #RIDR on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.
